Boss Mark Stimson is expecting big things from Gillingham youngsters Jack Payne and Luke Rooney.
The pair were brought back into the fold for the 0-0 draw against Colchester at Priestfield on Saturday.
Payne (pictured right), 18, played 90 minutes in the centre of midfield while 19-year-old Rooney made an encouraging display from the bench.
Neither player has been used in the previous three matches but both could now be used more as Stimson looks at ways of freshening up his squad.
"Those two have got potential to have really good careers at a high level," said Stimson.
"Jack Payne has got fantastic qualities for a young player and once we develop his physical shape we could be looking, for me, (at) possibly the big league.
"He’s done enough to earn himself another go on Tuesday and hopefully at his age he won’t burn out."
Rooney (pictured left) refused a new contract offer in the summer but Stimson is pleased to see the player put that to the back of his mind.
Stimson said: "His attitude is fantastic. He turns up every day and wants to be the best. He is frustrated because he wants to play and now is the time to give him a chance. He has a good future if he stays focused and takes on board what good people tell him."
Gillingham are likely to take up their option of another year’s contract for Rooney after failing to persuade the teenager to sign an improved three-year deal.
