Gillingham boss Mark Stimson is targeting a win on Saturday in the first of three matches against teams in the bottom eight of League 1.

A game against basement side Stockport is followed by a Boxing Day clash at home to Brentford and a trip to strugglers Exeter.

The Gills desperately need points to move away from the foot of the table before they become embroiled in a relegation scrap.

Stimson said: "We don’t want to lose this one because of where the team are in the league and we’ll be going to win it like we do all games.

"We need to get to 50 points as quick as possible and if we get three on Saturday the nearer we will be.

"It’s important we don’t drop too many points in the next three games because they are the teams who are going to be around us for the remainder of the season. It will be good to get off to a nice start on Saturday and look forward to the festive period."
