Gillingham boss Mark Stimson is hoping that new signings could be arriving at Priestfield imminently.

The Gills boss has targeted a League 1 striker and a higher division full-back to help bolster his side.

Both players would join on loan after chairman Paul Scally made new funds available.

Stimson said: “It’s something we’ve been working on since the weekend.

“We gave another couple of players another try at Brighton but unfortunately they haven’t come up to the standard that we’re looking for. They could be left out of the squad next week if we get those players in.

"If we don’t those players will do their best to make the bench and they may not even do that if we don’t get those players in.”

It is believed that midfielder Adam Miller and central defender Garry Richards are the two players Stimson was left disappointed with.

Miller could now go out on loan after a previous arrangement was scrapped due to injuries and lack of form.

Stimson has been keen to bring in a new striker for a while now and he could have a new face at the club as early as today, on a one-month loan.

He said: “We’re very close, without getting too excited, because we have been let down a couple of times this season. It just needs a phone call to try and tie it all up and if he comes he will give us something different.”
