Gillingham aim to end a run of three straight league defeats when they travel to Walsall on Saturday.

The Gills have slumped to 20th in the league and manager Mark Stimson knows results need to improve quickly.

Stimson (pictured) is hoping that a spirited Carling Cup display against Blackburn on Tuesday will give his side the confidence to start picking up points in League 1.

Stimson said: "It’s important we get something. It’s a place where if we play like we did on Tuesday, and we don’t come across the players like Blackburn had, then we may get something.

"We have to make sure we take that forward momentum into it.

"We want to go to Walsall with the same attacking play and enthusiasm, just tighten up defensively.

"We weren’t expected to get something from the Blackburn game but at Walsall we are expected in my eyes and hopefully the players’ eyes to get something."

New signing Danny Jackman will start if he feels no further effects from a knee injury and Andy Barcham will hope a knock he picked up on Tuesday will not keep him out.

Garry Richards is nursing a hamstring injury so Mark Bentley is ready to start again in central defence alongside new permanent addition Josh Gowling.
