Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is keeping his options open as negotiations for Charlton striker Chris Dickson continue.
Stimson recently upped his offer for the front man but Charlton are not letting their man go easily and the Gills boss knows he needs to keep looking elsewhere in case the bid fails.
"I spoke to the chairman and I said we have to get it done one way or the other," said Stimson.
"If we don’t then there are a couple of other players I would be interested in bringing to the club, possibly on loan, so I’m just waiting to hear back from the chairman now.
"We have a target and if we don’t get him I think we have to move on.
"There are one or two out there who I think can do a job but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we can bring in the one we really want."
A striker isn’t Stimson’s only target as he looks elsewhere to bolster his squad for the coming season.
The Gills boss added: "We would like to do it sooner rather than later so he (the player) can be here for the Crystal Palace game."
