New signings could be arriving at Gillingham next week.

Among the players Stimson is tracking is Kevin Maher (pictured right) who was released by Oldham last month.

Manager Mark Stimson is working hard to bolster his squad ahead of their League 1 campaign and his efforts could come to fruition in the next few days.

Stimson said: "At the moment we’re just quietly going about our work and we’re getting closer to doing something.

"We don’t want to mention too much in case another team jumps in. The chairman and myself have both made a couple of calls. We are getting close and hopefully by the middle of next week, we could have at least one or two new signings.

"We know we need to improve but we have to stay within the budget and we’re just making slow but steady progress."

Stimson is still waiting to hear back from keeper Simon Royce, who was offered a new one year deal, and free agent Maher.
