Mark Stimson will be passing on his Wembley experience to his current players as they prepare for Saturday’s League 2 promotion battle.

Stimson guided Stevenage to FA Trophy success at Wembley in 2007 but it was a game that wasn’t always going to plan.

Looking back at the game against Kidderminster, Stimson said: “In the first half we didn’t handle the occasion, we were losing 2-0 but we were quite fortunate that the other team thought they had won it going down the tunnel.

“I didn’t have to do a team talk. It was just a matter of going back and playing like they could.

“Our fitness levels were superior and with one goal back it was game on. We got three goals and won 3-2.

“It’s going to be the same message to these boys; play the game and not the occasion and do what you’ve been doing over the last 30 odd games because it’s been good.”

Among Stimson’s winning side that day were current Gillingham players Barry Fuller, John Nutter, Adam Miller and keeper Alan Julian.
