Martin Allen admits there was disappointment within the camp after failing to bring home maximum points from Fleetwood.
The Gills boss felt his side turned in a first half performance better than anything else in recent weeks but wasn’t rewarded with a win.
Instead they had to settle for a point as the hosts twice came from behind.
“It was a fantastic performance,” said Allen (pictured).
“There have been a few games away from home where we haven’t quite been there. We’ve made substitutions at half-time, which I don’t like doing, and we’ve got back into it. The first half was the best we have played for a long, long time.
“It is a shame we weren’t three or four up at half-time with the chances we created and the pace we had. We had the opportunities to get more goals. That is no criticism. It was a good, good performance.
“It’s another point towards our total. It was fierce and very difficult when they put on the two centre forwards at the end. They changed their style of play and went very direct with Jon Parkin (upfront) along with the lad (Jamille) Matt, who they brought in for 300 grand. Jon Parkin is a handful at any level.
“It was a team who were difficult to defend against. There is an element within the dressing room of disappointment that it wasn’t three points. That first 60-70 minutes were probably the best we have played for a long, long time. We were absolutely fantastic.
“When they scored with 68 minutes gone you would have expected absolute carnage around our box but there wasn’t.
“There were a few long balls put in but we dealt with them and defended as a team. Everyone stood in there and did their job. It was a great point for our club with the position we are in. Everyone is hoping we lose. It was a good point.”
