Gills boss Martin Allen was delighted to see his side pick up another point in the 0-0 draw at Exeter in League 2 after a long day on the road.
Many of the players left home at 6am on Tuesday to avoid being delayed by the snow, and didn’t get back until the early hours of Wednesday.
"It was a big result for us," said Allen. "We all left home at 6 o’clock to make sure we got to the ground at eight, because of the blizzard we left behind in Gillingham.
"All the players were texted the evening before so they left an hour and a half early. It is not very often that you get your players leaving home at six in the morning for a game. It took ages to get there.
"Did we play great individually? Not really. Did we play great as a team? They dug in and our goalkeeper had one save to make in the first half and one to save in the second half. We kept a clean sheet, got an away point and they are a bit below us in the league so it’s a good night."
It was Gillingham’s sixth clean sheet away from home since the turn of the year, having conceded just once in the seven away games in 2013.
Allen said: "Some of the passing was good, some of the passing was not so good. Did we create a million chances? No we didn’t but did we do the job we came down to do? The job was to keep a clean sheet, first and foremost, and we knew there would be chances for us.
"There were good chances late on and we could have won it 1-0. Martin Robinson had a chance that he put at the keeper, Danny Kedwell had one and Deon Burton had one.
"To have come here and won 1-0 after what has been a blinking long day then I must say it was a good result for our club."
