Allen said: "Charlie gives us something else, with his heading ability and his technical ability.
"He is not yet fully fit but he can do things that are great for any team and it’s lovely to have him back.
"Now he will have to train hard and he will be back amongst it next weekend."
But there was bad news for Allen, as left-back Joe Martin will be out for between four to six weeks with a fractured hand. He had started Gillingham’s last 16 games.
Martin picked up the injury against Torquay on Tuesday night – just four days after midfielder Charlie Allen received a double fracture to his hand.
"It was an absolute freak for those two players to have got fractures," said Allen, who was also without striker Deon Burton (knee) at the weekend.
