Callum Davies displayed his versatility on Tuesday night with a promising display in the defensive midfield role for Gillingham.
It’s a position that Crystal Palace loan player David Wright had held for much of the season.
But with Wright now departed, and back in the Palace squad, Gills manager Martin Allen has handed 19-year-old Davies (pictured) a chance.
His previous appearances had come in central defence but after sitting out the last six games, he returned with a performance that delighted the manager.
"He was absolutely superb," said Allen. "He showed a great attitude. He’s a warrior. He did a great job and their centre forward is a dangerous player.
"We had to do a little bit of a job to protect our two centre backs which is what we have done all season and Callum did great."
