Gillingham boss Martin Allen hopes to be able to extend the stay of midfielder David Wright.

The 32-year-old, pictured, has played six games for the Gills since joining on a month’s loan from Championship side Crystal Palace.

That deal expires after Saturday's home game against Aldershot, but discussions are ongoing with a view to extending it for another month.

Allen said: "David Wright has been fantastic since he has been here. He is a top-class professional, he knows how to play the game and knows how to help our young players.

"He knows how to play football, knows where the danger is, when to go in and when to stay off. He is a calming influence in the dressing room.

"He looks after his body, he cares, he is courageous and you wouldn’t know that he is a loan player. He gives everything for our club and he has never missed a day’s training. We will do our utmost to sign him."

A Gillingham XI won a friendly at Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday night 2-0 with goals from Bradley Dack and Nathan Nyafli.
