Adam Miller could face Norwich tonight in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after boss Mark Stimson had second thoughts about sending him out on loan.
Miller (pictured) missed Saturday’s defeat at Southampton while negotiations over a loan move to another League 1 side took place but an injury to fellow midfielder Danny Jackman and poor performances elsewhere have left the door open for a return to the side.
Stimson said: "We were going to try and do a deal with the team so we could release some funds. That’s probably out of the window now because Danny Jackman is injured and other players didn’t perform as well as I thought they could.
"I know one thing with Adam, he will give his all. If he was out there (on Saturday) he would have definitely, without a shadow of doubt, got a yellow card. It hurts and it hurt Curtis Weston. I’ve got a lot of time for Curtis because when you are losing it’s how easy do you lose."
The Gills were negotiating over the percentage of wages that would be paid in the deal and that stumbling block now seems likely to have given Miller another chance to impress.
Stimson will make changes with Alan Julian likely to return in goal. Barry Fuller was struggling with a shoulder injury on Saturday and could be rested, while Jack Payne, Garry Richards and Mark McCammon could all start.
Simeon Jackson (hamstring), Jackman (dislocated shoulder) and Simon King (ankle) remain out and Stuart Lewis is still not ready for selection after recovering from an ankle injury.
Richards, who has just recovered from a toe injury, is likely to replace Josh Gowling. The defender faces a one game ban after notching up a fifth booking during Saturday's defeat at Southampton.
The second round match at Priestfield kicks off at 7.30pm.
