Gillingham midfielder Danny Jackman is determined to help the club bounce back following last weekend's defeat at home to Macclesfield.

Gills must at least avoid defeat at title-chasing Chesterfield on Saturday to have any chance of clinching a League 2 play-off spot, and Jackman, pictured, won’t be giving up easily.

He said: "It is bitterly disappointing to have come away with no points from the last two home games. All we can do is regroup, try and stay positive and try and get a win away (at Chesterfield).

"We shouldn’t be in this position, where we need to go to the top team to get a win for the play-offs, we should have been up in that area long before. But we are where we are and we need to all stick together and not mope around.

"You can’t feel sorry for yourself at this stage of the season. We can either go to Chesterfield with our heads held high and get a result or we can go away and think our season is over. I certainly won’t be. I will be going up there with the mentality of us getting a win."

Against Macclesfield Jackman scored for the Gills just before half-time to make it 3-1, but almost immediately from the restart Macclesfield scored a fourth.

"It would have nice to get the goal in different circumstances, but it was nice to get one," Jackman said. "It would have been nice if we could have won."
