Danny Jackman feels a more united approach from the Gillingham players can reap rewards this season.

A testing season last year led to rumblings of disharmony in the camp and Jackman, pictured, feels that the new management regime have already begun to make a difference.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler wants the players to unite closer on and off the pitch, as was the case during the club’s glory years in the Championship.

"We need to stick together and it’s already been noticeable how much happier it is around the place," said Jackman.

"Obviously it can change if you aren’t doing as well but we just need to keep together and tightly knit. Nobody is trying to get out and everyone has held their hands up and admitted it wasn’t a great year.

"Some people out of contract have left but we’re determined to get back up into League 1 and the quality we have here is high.

"Being together as a team can go a long way. We’ve some gifted players and if we are together, I’m sure we’ll be up there."
