It is important that we don’t get too down and dwell on Monday’s result at Wycombe.
I’m confident that we will bounce back after our defeat and get a win at Stockport on Saturday.
The Wycombe performance (pictured above) was not too bad against a team who I feel will go up automatically. They didn’t cause us too many problems on the day, it was just unfortunate that we conceded from a set piece.
It meant the winning streak came to an end but it certainly was not without a fight. With a little more luck, Cody’s effort that hit the bar could have dropped in or at the feet of one of our players.
The first half was not our best display but we can be forgiven for maybe being a little tired after our efforts over the last couple of games.
As the game went on, we kept the ball better and put the pressure on in the final 15 minutes.
The side has been settled which is always good when you want to put some consistency into performances and results which has certainly shown over the last few weeks.
It is, of course, frustrating for the lads who are on the bench and are desperate to be part of it at the moment but there are few complaints from anyone because it’s good to see the team winning again and everyone can now look forward to the second half of the season.
Credit must go to the players and management over the last six games.
We have suffered a lot of criticism, some of it deserved, since the beginning of the season but we’ve stuck together through those tough times and made a big step in the right direction.
It is a great achievement to win five games in a row at any level of football and we can be proud of gaining 15 points from 18 over the six games.
Stockport have just sacked their manager, so their players I’m sure will put that extra bit of effort in.
As a player, you must take your share of blame if the manager loses his job, especially if you are underperforming but as they say, ‘it’s a results business’ and unfortunately the buck always seems to stop with the manager.
Owners always seem quick to make changes at clubs these days, with managers only lasting months instead of years in a job.
It does take time for managers to stamp their mark on a club and they deserve more time to make wrongs right.
Stockport is a place that brings back fond memories from our FA Cup tie there when we recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 and set us up for the game against Aston Villa.
It was a great team effort that night and that’s what will be required again.
With Joe Martin picking up a hamstring injury against Wycombe it may see the return of Barchy to start his first game for a few months. We all remember how well he did against Stockport in that cup game.
He, like the rest of us coming back from injury, is getting sharper and fitter every day and is looking forward to getting valuable minutes on the pitch to regain our match fitness.
