Goalkeeper Alan Julian insists it’s business as usual for the Gills, despite the weather doing its best to disrupt the flow of their season.
The Gills' FA Cup tie at Accrington on Tuesday night was the latest to fall foul of the weather, but Julian isn’t letting events off the pitch concern him.
He said: "We’ve been quite professional and not been letting the weather get to us in any way.
"We trained at Tottenham on Thursday and that was spot on and we were in with the fitness coach Danny Ellis again on Saturday.
"When you put the work in it pays dividends.
"I’m not sure what other clubs are doing but I know some players are having days off. While they’re doing that, we’re kicking on and working hard."
Julian was on the bench for the opening two rounds of the FA Cup and he’s relishing the chance to put on the gloves for the third round tie, which has been rearranged for next Tuesday (January 19).
He said: "I’ve never played in the third round of the FA Cup before. If we can get through that game, then there is a great reward at the end of it.
"It’s a nice draw and hopefully we can get a result at Accrington. My girlfriend and family are Fulham supporters, though, so if we did get to play them, I’m not sure if they would be supporting me or throwing snowballs at me from the terraces!"
He added: "I’ve always loved the FA Cup ever since I was a kid. It was always a big day when the final was on the TV.
"I’m a Chelsea supporter and I’ve been to a couple of finals. It’s the best competition in the world and to play in it is special."
While Fulham await the winners, Julian knows all too well of the perils that can await in Accrington.
A 4-1 defeat there in 2005 while he was at Stevenage is testament to that.
He added: "I actually played well. We were going for the play-offs at the time and it just shows how football can bite you on the backside.
"It’s a tough place to go but we know what the reward is and all the boys will be up for it."
Julian’s last FA Cup appearance was in the first round of the competition last season at Bury. He kept a clean sheet and the Gills ran out 1-0 winners.
He said: "That’s what this game is going to be like. I’m not expecting a pretty game. We’ll have to roll our sleeves up and fight and then hopefully our quality will shine through."
