Jake Hessenthaler has been offered a one-year professional deal by Gillingham.
The midfielder, the son of former manager and current director of football Andy, has impressed Gills boss Martin Allen with his development in the past year.
Hessenthaler (pictured) is currently on loan at Blue Square Bet Premier Tamworth, where he has started their last two matches.
Assistant manager John Schofield said: "Technically he is very good and a good ball player.
"It's his first step towards moving up the ladder. It's a great for him and he deserves it."
The Gills have, however, handed Ashley Miller a free transfer while third-year scholars Nathan Nyafli and Jack Parter have left the club.
Alfie Coates, another third-year scholar, will not be offered a professional deal while no decision has been made yet on Joe Carter who has only recently returned to training following a broken cheekbone.
Miller, who is currently on loan at Ryman League Hythe, made his Gills debut in 2010 at the age of 16. However, he only made five further appearances for the Gills, his last outing coming as a late substitute in the 2-2 draw at Bristol Rovers last April.
The Gills also confirmed the departure of keeper Daren Hawkes, which we revealed on Wednesday.
