Gillingham manager Martin Allen insists Tuesday night’s friendly at Tonbridge Angels will be "full on."
The Gills team will include a mixture of senior first team players, development squad members and in-form youth players.
Allen (pictured) will be watching from the stands as development manager Mark Patterson takes charge from the touchline, but it’s a game he expects his players to treat like a league encounter.
He said: "It was optional for Ben Strevens, Lewis Montrose, Callum Davies and Tommy Forecast to play. Bradley Dack had to play. But to those four I asked them ‘do you want to play, do you need to play?’ If they do play they have to play properly.
"All four of them wanted to play and so they will play 70 minutes, get in the shower and go home and so they won’t have a late night. Then they will be fresh and ready for Thursday.
"We want a good performance; we want it full on. They have been in on Sunday morning to train and on Monday. We’ve decided to treat it just like we would a first team game. So all the young lads were in on Sunday morning training, which is what we (in the first team) do. We are trying to copy that all the way through.
"Mark Patterson is taking the team, John Schofield (assistant manager) is watching a reserve game, Carl Muggleton (goalkeeper coach) is working with Ross Flitney and it will be a chance to watch, review and not worry about the result but have an interest in how all our lads play.
"There are some youth team players who have played extremely well from (youth manager) Darren Hare’s reports and I would like to see them in a game. Some of the development players who have been with Patto it’s a good opportunity for me to see them play."
Keeper Flitney (pictured) has not played since January 28 in Accrington. He underwent a knee operation in the summer but is primed for a brief return at Blue Square Bet South Tonbridge, where he is due for a 20 minute outing.
Allen said: "I rang him at home on Monday night because he wasn’t even down to be substitute. I said to him, ‘you’ve trained every day now for two weeks, you’ve not missed a day’s training, why don’t you go and play 20 minutes at Tonbridge as part of your training?’ It will be great for him to get out there."
Tuesday's game at Longmead Stadium kicks off at 7.30pm and adult tickets are priced at £8.
