Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has signed one of his major summer transfer targets - Northampton's Danny Jackman.

The 26-year-old (pictured) returns to Priestfield for an undisclosed fee after signing a three-year deal with the Gills.

Jackman, who can play at left-back or in midfield, is expected to feature in Tuesday night's Carling Cup second round tie at home to Blackburn.

Stimson said: "Danny will be a really good signing for us as I know he did well at the club before and the supporters appreciated his work ethic.

"Whenever he has played against a team of mine he has always stood out.

"We've been working on the deal for a few weeks and as a natural left footer I believe Danny will bring good balance to the midfield."

Gillingham revealed that Stimson has been interested in Jackman for six weeks, although news of their pursuit was only made public earlier this month.

Jackman made 79 appearances for the Gills between 2005 and 2007, scoring two goals.
