Gillingham reserves were soundly beaten by Leyton Orient in their penultimate Combination League game of the season at Brisbane Road.
The Gills lost 3-0 on Tuesday and only a penalty save from young keeper Daran Hawkes prevented the defeat from being any greater.
Hawkes saved a penalty from Loick Pires but a second spot-kick, with the Gills already 1-0 down, was scored by Adrian Patulea.
James Walker (pictured) was leading the Gills attack against a side where he previously spent time on loan. He shot wide in the second half and Rashid Yussuff also came close.
A late third from Orient made it 3-0.
The Gills were made up of a mixture of youth and seniors with Stuart Lewis and Chris Palmer joining youth players Charlie Stimson, James Brown and Alex Brown.
Gills: Hawkes, Palmer, James Brown, Essam, Davies, Cumbers, Lewis, Alex Brown, Walker, Stimson, Yussuff. Subs: Pugh, Benniman, Fisher, Brunt.
