Championship side Watford are up next for Gillingham as they wind down their pre-season with their toughest test yet.
The Gills face Gianfranco Zola’s side at Priestfield on Tuesday night in what is their final scheduled match before kicking off the season with a League Cup trip to Bristol City next week.
Boss Martin Allen (pictured) has so far mixed up his team between weekend and mid-week fixtures but may not do so this time around.
He said: “We might change a few of them but we have got to get the momentum going and keep it going.
“There may have been some disappointed players not to be in that eleven (on Saturday) but the players that came on also did really well. Some of them perhaps deserve the chance to play at that level.
“We are going to need them. We have a lot of games coming up, thick and fast. We will have to wait and see and we will make that decision Monday morning.”
The Gills players had an early morning pool session on Sunday and were back in on Monday for a double training session before taking a rest on Tuesday – ahead of the evening fixture. The players and management will, however, be required for the afternoon club photo-shoot.
Gills fans may see a familiar face in the Watford line-up with the return of Nyron Nosworthy to Priestfield. The big defender, who progressed through the club’s youth set-up, played for the Gills between 1998 and 2005 before leaving to join Premier League Sunderland.
