Gillingham have agreed a two-year deal with defender Josh Gowling.
Gowling (pictured) has been on loan from Carlisle since pre-season and a deal will be signed on Wednesday.
A recent loan contract was agreed to assure he was available for selection on Tuesday against Blackburn and now the relevant parties have agreed on a permanent deal.
Manager Mark Stimson has been playing Gowling in an unfamiliar left sided defensive role recently but was impressed with his performance after switching him to the right on Tuesday against Blackburn.
Stimsons said: "I thought Josh showed what I think he can be, a good right centre half.
"He played well and I was impressed with him. You bring players into the club to play to their strengths and their positions. Sometimes they have to move across and do the best they can. That’s happened to Josh.
"He came in and did his best in that (left) position and its hard to criticise too much but it is strange to play on the wrong side of the pitch because it’s not natural to you.
"He went on that side of the pitch and he looked natural and totally different and its just moving ten yards across but it can be like that."
