Gillingham sink Dartford in pre-season test at Princes Park

Dartford 2 Gillingham 4

Gillingham overcame a hard working Dartford side at Princes Park on Tuesday night in an entertaining pre-season test.

The Darts gave the visiting defence plenty with former Gillingham trainee Adam Burchell a constant threat.

Burchell, who was released this summer at the end of a two-year scholosrhip, scored one goal and walked away with the man of the match award.

Gillingham proved too strong though for their Ryman League opponents with Burchell’s former youth team mate Luke Rooney again impressing and scoring for Gillingham’s senior side.

Rooney (pictured) scored the opener for Gillingham in the 11 minute and that lead was doubled when a mistake at the back for Dartford let in Andy Barcham and he made no mistake.

Dartford always looked a threat with the pace of youngster Burchell and he got in behind Gillingham’s defence to pull a goal back just seconds after Barcham’s effort.

A minute before the break Dartford were level when Hayes whipped in a free-kick and Adam Flanagan headed home past Simon Royce.

Gillingham made 10 changes at the break, with only trialist central defender Aaron Brown making the full 90 minutes, while Dartford blooded plenty of youth in the second half.

With 52 minutes gone the Gills took the lead again when young defender Tom Wynter headed home Chris Palmer’s corner kick.

Left-back Jordan Parkes capped an impressive second half display with the final goal on 78 minutes with a low shot from distance that crept past keeper Sam Mott.
