Gillingham star King denies attack

GILLINGHAM FC chairman Paul Scally says the club's striker Marlon King denies being involved in a late-night fracas in which a police officer was allegedly hit over the head with a beer bottle. King, 21, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in London and has been bailed until later this month while police investigate.

Mr Scally said: "We were aware that there had been an incident and have spoken to Marlon about it. He has assured us that he was not personally involved and has not been charged with any offence. It would be inappropriate to comment any further until, or unless, there are any further developments.

"Marlon has been an excellent professional since he came to us from Barnet and has conducted himself in an impeccable manner both on and off the field."
