Gillingham boss Mark Stimson will step up his pursuit of Northampton's Danny Jackman on Monday.

Stimson was hoping to have added Jackman, who played 79 games for the Gills between 2005 and 2007, to the squad before Saturday’s 5-0 win over Swindon but will now attempt to get a deal sealed for the defender, pictured, before the weekend’s trip to Tranmere.

He said: "We thought we were close with the boy Jackman, but that’s been stopped at the moment and we’ll be going back first thing Monday morning to see if there is any movement on that. We’ve gone in with a decent offer for someone of his age and for what he has left on his contract."

Northampton boss Stuart Gray described the offer as "nowhere near acceptable" but Stimson won’t be put off.

"All clubs will want more but I understand the boy has put a transfer request in,” Stimson said.

“They may be better off taking some money and moving on. I think he’s a decent player for them but I am led to believe that he doesn’t really want to play in Division 2. He’s too good."

Meanwhile, Stimson is maintaining the pressure on Charlton to let Chris Dickson leave and join the Gills but dismissed suggestions from Addicks manager Phil Parkinson of a swap deal involving Simeon Jackson.

"A straight swap for those two is never going to happen because we would like to pair the two up together," Stimson said.
