Danny Kedwell admits he has found Martin Allen’s squad rotation system tough at times.

The 12-goal striker (pictured) has been rotated in and out of the team this season, along with fellow forwards Deon Burton, Adam Birchall and Myles Weston.

Kedwell was boosted, though, by scoring for the Gills last time out against Port Vale to end a run of nine games without a goal.

He said: "It is nice to score from open play and I know myself I need to score more from open play but I have been in the team, out of the team, then in the team and it is hard to get momentum going and keep that match fitness.

"I went through a bit of a bad patch for a couple of months, not feeling fit, not being match fit by only playing 20 minutes here and there.

"It was nice of the gaffer to give me a start against Port Vale in the biggest game of the season and I got that goal. We lost but I am happy with my own form."

Despite his own highs and lows this season, Kedwell knows promotion is the only thing that matters – whoever scores and whoever plays.

He said: "We are all in it together. I am a Gillingham fan so I don’t really care how we win, if I am playing or not, as long as we get promoted.

"It is tough. You want to play every game and play as much football as you can, especially when you are getting that bit older but as long as we are winning and up near the top, I am not too bothered."
