Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has been boosted by the news that striker Danny Kedwell will be fit to face Southend on Tuesday night.
Kedwell was a doubt after hobbling away from Saturday's 1-1 draw with Accrington after being fouled for Gillingham's late penalty
Captain Andy Frampton missed the weekend's game with a thigh injury after picking up an injury in training following a collision with fellow defender Matt Lawrence. He is rated 50-50 for the match.
Curtis Weston is understood to be out of the game though with a thigh injury.
It will mean Hessenthaler will need to shuffle his players around again for the League 2 match at Roots Hall. He is already without young midfielder Jack Payne (knee) for a month.
"That’s why you need a squad and people together," said Hessenthaler.
"You don’t really want to be losing players on loan. I want to try and keep people together because I know how quickly things can change through injuries.
"We have a decent squad but a lot of them are really young and are they ready for it yet? Maybe not."
Better news for Hessenthaler is that young keeper Paulo Gazzaniga should be back for next weekend. He contracted a mumps-type virus.
It means the Gills will go without a substitute keeper at Southend again.
Southend will wait on news from injured striker Neil Harris. The former Gills man has been struggling with a groin injury.
