Mark McCammon made his first Gillingham appearance for almost half a year on Tuesday night.
The big striker played the final 20 minutes of the Gills’ friendly match at Concord Rangers.
Gillingham lost the match 2-0 but McCammon did find the net, only for his goal to be harshly ruled out for off-side. Home keeper Lamar Johnson also made one good stop with his legs on a lively showing for the 31-year-old.
McCammon last pulled on a Gillingham shirt on February 6 in the 4-0 League 1 defeat at Brentford.
He was subsequently loaned out to Bradford, where he picked up an injury. Summer surgery meant he missed the early part of pre-season but is now fighting to win over manager Andy Hessenthaler and prove he is good enough.
Gillingham assistant manager Ian Hendon said: "It was good to see Mark McCammon back in a kit and I thought he scored a perfectly good goal. The officials ruled it out for offside but why they did that I don’t know but he looked sharp and lively.
"He got around the pitch, he ran and chased and won his headers as you would expect. He showed good mobility which was quite pleasing."
