Stefan Payne netted a hat-trick on his home debut for Blue Square Bet side Braintree Town on Tuesday night.
The young striker, on a month’s loan from Gillingham, proved too hot for visitors Basingstoke Town to handle.
Braintree currently lead the way in the South division with an 11 point cushion over nearest challengers Chelmsford.
At the Cressing Road Stadium, Payne’s new team won 5-2, with the Gillingham striker hitting three of the goals.
It was Payne’s second match for Braintree after playing 80 minutes at the weekend.
He has been restricted to substitute appearances with the Gills, making just one start since arriving in the summer.
