Gillingham return to Priestfield for the first time in weeks with confidence and form flowing, and our panel are sure they can make it four wins in a row when they take on League 2 leaders Chesterfield on Saturday.

MALCOLM SMITH

(Grimsby)

"If we are going to make these past three away wins count for anything, then avoiding defeat against Chesterfield is a must.

"What better way to see just how far we have come since the Dover defeat than against table-topping Chesterfield.

"The last time Chesterfield visited Priestfield it was a bruising encounter but one which got the crowd fired up.

"This Saturday will see many returning to Priestfield after a successful period away from home, expecting much."

Prediction: Gills 2 Chesterfield 1

SAM LIVINGSTONE

(Pangbourne)

"Gillingham are in a rich vein of form having broken our away-day duck and getting three wins on the trot to send us just four points off the play-offs.

"Chesterfeld are in a little dip, despite victory last weekend, yet remain top and will be good opposition to see just how close the Gills are to challenge for promotion.

"I think that we will edge this game although I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet."

Prediction: Gills 2 Chesterfield 1

PAUL BLAKELEY

(Maidstone)

"The last time we played Chesterfield didn’t make for pleasant viewing. Their game-plan was one of the most cynical I’ve ever seen.

"It’ll be interesting to see how we cope without Whelpdale and Lee. Hopefully, the confidence will be high and their replacements will fill the void ably.

"It would be nice to see King and Barcham get some minutes."

Prediction: Gills 2 Chesterfield 1

MATT HARRIS

(Tonbridge)

"This weekend’s game against leaders Chesterfield is set to be an intriguing one. Intriguing, but also potentially concerning.

"Now Lee and Whelpdale have gone back to Peterborough, it is going to be interesting to see how we get on from here. It is clear we are still more than capable of conceding cheap goals.

"If we can cut that out, play with the same recent fluidity along the deck and feed the ball to Bayo’s feet and on to Cody, then we have a chance of giving Chesterfield a tough afternoon."

Prediction: Gills 2 Chesterfield 1

DAVID ELLIOTT

(Broadstairs)

"After three straight wins on the road it's important we do not get carried away. Our home form must still improve significantly if we are to have any form of success this season.

We still have weaknesses in a couple of key areas which must be addressed in January. For the first time this season Hess will soon have a near fully fit squad to choose from and must quickly work out his best team/formation. With key players like Barcham, Weston and King soon available, there can be no more excuses.

We must keep the momentum going and a win against the division's top side would at last put us on the solid run we so desperately need. We should certainly respect Chesterfield who have fared better than us so far this season, but fear nobody as we have more than enough quality in the squad to do well in this division.

I hope for a great game with the Gills comfortable winners, but feel it will be a close match with Gills edging it and grinding out a win.

Prediction: Gills 2 Chesterfield 1

JOHN TAYLOR

(Chesterfield fan)

"We’ll be heading to Gillingham reasonably confident after a decent performance in our last game against Torquay. We’re in a new stadium and top of the league. I’ve never known the mood to be so buoyant and the crowds are on the up.

"Everyone in town seems to be talking about the club. Our recent results at Gillingham have been poor, though and I get the impression the Gills have turned the corner, particularly away from home.

"I imagine it will be a tight game and I’m going for a draw. I certainly don’t believe we will win the game but I’m confident with the way we’ve been playing, that we can get a point.

"My most painful memory as a Chesterfield supporter was at Gillingham in September 1987 when we suffered a 10-0 defeat. It was a dark day but it had nothing to do with the weather!"

Prediction: Gills 1 Chesterfield 1
