Gillingham fans are hoping for more joy on Boxing Day against Aldershot
Gillingham fans are predicting the return of at least a point from their League 2 trip to Aldershot on Boxing Day.
Buoyed by three successive wins on their travels, the Gills are aiming to make it four in a row. Here’s what our panel of Gillingham supporters think.

After another game called off at Priestfield it seems we only play away nowadays which is handy considering our form at the minute!
With numerous players making their comeback, we could have a very strong team with King, Richards, Weston, Payne and Barcham all returning which is fantastic news and they can ably replace our loanees!
However, I don’t think this run can go on forever and we seem to have a poor Boxing Day record so I am going for a 1-1 draw with Cody McDonald (pictured) scoring for us.

The extended break has not come at a good time because I really think we would have benefited from the renewed confidence and taken points from the Chesterfield encounter. That said, it does now mean we are playing our fourth consecutive game away from home and represents a chance to get another win on the road.
Aldershot have lost their last 2 home games and have also not kept a clean sheet in 8 games - so I’m confident we can score and if we can keep it tight at the back another three points is a real possibility.
Their striker Marvin Morgan (pictured, with Garry Richards) is a player Gills have been rumoured to show interest in signing in the past; and whenever I’ve seen him play he’s been a real handful. Much will depend on Matt Lawrence’s ability to keep him quiet in the game.
At the other end I believe the Bayo Akinfenwa is now hitting his top form and is a real weapon for us up-front. It’s his all-round play as well as his goal scoring threat which makes a big difference.
It’s a big game as the players need to go out and prove that it wasn’t just the loan signings of Lee and Whelpdale that have been the catalyst behind the recent wins - whoever comes into the team needs to take on their responsibility.
I’d be very happy with a point to take into the upcoming home games and believe we have enough about us to get at least that.

It will be interesting to see if the momentum of winning away can be carried on now that Whelpdale and Lee (pictured) have returned to Peterborough. And it will be an interesting game as Aldershot are starting to struggle, having only won once in their last four games.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if Simon King makes a appearance, or even a start, after completing 90 minutes in the reserves and with Sinclair injured who will Hessy opt for as the centre back pairing?

Again the weather has wreaked havoc with our plans and with another home game postponed, it puts us potentially in the odd situation of four away games in a row. And even more unusually, this could be the fourth win.
Hopefully the Gills won't be rusty, though it's probably the same for the Shots. Maybe, finally, some of the returning injured players will get a run out - assuming the pitch isn't too hard.
We should go with confidence and it would be ace to come back with four wins in a row. Once again its a chance to show the team was more than Lee and Whelpdale. I for some reason can only foresee a scrappy game

The Rotherham defeat last time out was the story of our season. We didn’t take our chances and we were punished. Aldershot just aren’t showing that cutting edge at the moment.
The team are on a bad run of form at the moment, which included the defeat to Dover but I don’t think I need mention more of them. Getting knocked out of the FA Cup hasn’t helped things. (Adam Birchall is pictured scoring the first of two against the Shots).
The thing that is annoying most people is the lack of goals. Under the previous manager Gary Waddock they played free-flowing football and although they conceded a few they scored some as well. The last game between the sides ended 4-4 and I think Aldershot fans would welcome another one of those.
Aldershot should give the Gills a good game and if things click then they could sneak a win.
Prediction: Shots 2 Gills 1
