Adebayo Akinfenwa insists the disappointing run of results is just a minor setback and that Gillingham will come good.

The Gills lost 1-0 on home turf to Lincoln and drew their previous two League 2 matches but the big striker hasn’t lost any confidence in the side’s ability to make their mark this season.

“We are still working but it will click and we will do something this season,” he insisted.

“As players we have the confidence and know it will come (together). Until we get that first win the anxiety and pressure will build, especially at home. We just want to get that first win. Apart from Saturday, the performances have been good.

“We will do something in this league. This is a very good squad and the confidence, belief and work ethic is there. We are all disappointed that we lost but we will go again this week."

Akinfenwa (pictured) added: "It’s a marathon and not a sprint but we will put it right and the gaffer will get us on the training ground. It’s going to be a long week for us and we’re going to nail it. God forbid if it’s not Saturday that we’re going to get a win then it will be sooner rather than later.

“We’ll keep going and we’ll keep positive. We won’t dwell on it, we’ll go again and look forward to next week.”
