Young midfielder Bradley Dack has praised the attitude of the senior player he is trying to replace.
Dack has been heavily involved under Martin Allen this season, making his senior debut in the Capital One Cup victory over Bristol City last month.
He has since gone on to feature in four more games, making his first senior start and scoring his first senior goal.
His presence has been at the expense of some other senior players but they have welcomed the former Gills youth captain with open arms.
The 18-year-old, who recently signed a new three-year deal with the Gills, said: "The senior players have been great to me and really helped me out.
"People who play in my position, like Charlie Lee, Lewis Montrose and Danny Jackman, have helped me to develop and it’s good when you are working with players like that."
Allen was impressed by Dack’s record last season, where he scored more than 20 goals from midfield in the youth team, and also liked what he saw in pre-season.
Dack said: "He saw the goals in me and it all really started in France during
pre-season, where he told me I had done well and that if I kept scoring, it will be hard for him to leave me out.
"First-team football has been hard and is more physical than the youth team and a bit slower but I am handling it all right. I’ll keep going and hopefully I will get a few more goals this season."
