Andy Barcham isn’t worried about the prospect of facing competition for his place as Gills manager Mark Stimson hunts for possible new wingers.
Barcham (pictured) has made the left wing berth his own since signing for the Gills from Premier League Tottenham at the start of last season.
The 23-year-old continues to recover from a knee injury, and although he could find it harder than normal to win his shirt back, he’s not panicking.
He said: "That’s part and parcel of the game and players do come and go.
"If players come in then it will mean better competition and that’s a good thing. I just want to get back now and playing."
Barcham’s absence has highlighted the lack of out and out wingers at the club but he has been impressed with the form of John Nutter, who has taken that role for the last three games.
"I’ve gone to a few games and he’s done well," added Barcham. "The lads don’t seem to be missing me too much. I don’t mind as I want to see them do well."
Barcham picked up his injury on the training ground and it’s proving to be a frustrating time on the sidelines.
"It’s been a bit slow to recover," he said. "It’s one thing to hurt yourself in a game but to do it in training is frustrating."
