Bruce Inkango could make his Gillingham debut this weekend providing his international clearance arrives in time.
The French winger earned himself a three-month contract with the Gills and providing the paperwork is in order, he will be part of the squad taking on Burton tomorrow (Saturday) at Priestfield.
Inkango (pictured), 26, is a former AS Cannes player and has played for a number of other clubs in France, as well as Swiss side Neuchatel Xamax.
Gillingham secretary Gwen Poynter has spent the week trying to get the paperwork in place before the weekend.
"It sometimes takes time unfortunately," said Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler.
"We are pretty confident it will be through in time for him to be available at the weekend.
"He has pace and could cause problems. If you give him the ball, he will run at people and when the game is stretched, I wouldn’t like to be a full-back playing against Bruce.
"He is different to what we’ve got. We only have one player like him and that’s Andy Barcham. But he’s injured at the moment, so it’s a nice option to have if we can get his clearance.
"Gwen is dealing with it, she knows what she is doing and she can only do as much as she can. Hopefully, it will be enough for him to be involved.
"He was in on Wednesday to do extra training and is right up for it. He wants to get going."
The Gills have also been keen to off-load some players on loan, with Kevin Maher and Luke Rooney among those available, but as yet no offers have come in.
Hessenthaler said: "Teams have got their squads and if they have a problem injury-wise, then we may get a few phone calls but at the moment there has been no interest in any of the boys."
