Leon Legge showed his former boss Andy Scott just what he was missing at Aldershot.

The defender, pictured, ran from one end of the pitch to the other to score Gillingham’s equaliser and it was the kind of goal he never scored while playing for Scott – the current Aldershot manager – at Brentford.

He said: “I never did those sort of runs under him. I have scored goals where it’s been the equaliser or clinched the win but I showed what I am about aerially attacking-wise as well.

“I was blowing after scoring the goal but after playing 12 games so far (for Gillingham), my fitness levels have gone right up.

“We never gave up, even when we were going through a bad patch in the second half. We still kept plugging away and got the goal and were more of a threat in the last 15 minutes.”

Despite captain Adam Barrett being ill throughout the game, Legge insists he wasn’t having to do any extra work to take the pressure off his team-mate.

He said: “He’s a fighter. He helped us to the point and he has a week now to rest and come back fresh.

“At the start of the season I set myself a target of five goals and I have got two so far. I wouldn’t mind two or three more and we have 11 games left to do it.”
