Gillingham's plans for this weekend have taken a blow following the news that Dennis Oli’s return has been hit by another injury.
Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler was hoping Oli’s pace could have been key to unlocking the door to table-topping visitors Chesterfield on Saturday.
Hamstring problems have blighted Oli’s season and a recurrence in the reserves on Wednesday leaves Hessenthaler needing a plan B.
Hessenthaler said: "He would have been part of my weekend plans. He’s fast, quick and effective."
Also back for the reserves following injuries were Garry Richards and Andy Barcham but this weekend looks to be too early for the pair.
Curtis Weston was also back and could make the bench.
Simon King, meanwhile, played his first 90 minutes in 18 months on Wednesday but is unlikely to dislodge the defensive pairing of Josh Gowling and Matt Lawrence just yet.
"We’ve got competition for places and that’s healthy," said Hessenthaler.
Mark Bentley (foot) and Jack Payne (foot) are likely to need another week’s training but Stefan Payne (knee) is available.
Tony Sinclair is out for "four to six" weeks with a foot injury, while striker Adebayo Akinfenwa missed training on Thursday with a groin injury.
