Andy Hessenthaler believes his newly-formed strike partnership is only just warming up.
The Gillingham manager has paired Saturday’s two-goal hero Danny Kedwell (bottom right) with new signing Frank Nouble (top right).
Together, they have already contributed four goals in the last two games.
"The partnership can only get better," boasted Hessenthaler. "The more they work with each other on the training ground and get an understanding, there are going to be more and more goals.
"There is a long way to go and they have only played a couple of games together. Frank was in the right place for his goal and it’s a good combination at the moment so long may that continue."
Kedwell bagged his first goals from open play in the 3-1 win over Burton on Saturday and Nouble added the other on his home debut.
"The forwards are scoring and that’s good news," said Hessenthaler. "We have scored nine goals in two games and we are pleased with that. We know what Keds will give you and he will give you goals. It takes a bit of time for players to settle.
"He scored with a terrific header in the first half and he gets in the right places. I am really delighted for him."
Saturday’s game was the 10th in League 2 for the Gills and Hessenthaler was satisfied with the club’s current predicament – lying just three points off the top in a heavily-congested top half of the table.
"I am happy with the team and the points return has been good," said Hessenthaler, whose side are just three points off their points target for the opening two months of the season.
