Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has warned his players that their failures away from home could prove ruinous.

The Gills travel to MK Dons on Saturday with just a single point from their opening six away games.

Stimson (pictured) knows that the away record needs to improve and believes the club’s League 1 status could rest on it.

He said: "We don’t want to keep relying on our home form because sooner or later that’s not going to work.

"That’s why you have to go to away grounds and nick points."

Stimson saw his side lose 2-0 at Brighton on Tuesday and he admits the poor away form is frustrating everyone.

He added: "It should get to the players and it gets to me because you want an even keel.

"You want to have a good home points tally and be decent on your trips. We haven’t been this year.

"We have to start changing it and on Saturday hopefully we will."

Gillingham completed the loan signings of defender Matt Fry from West Ham and Colchester striker Scott Vernon on Thursday and both players will be available for the MK Dons game.
