Gills fan Bradley Hewitt celebrates Gills' 'promotion'

Gills fan Bradley Hewitt is so confident his team will gain promotion this season he is already making plans to celebrate.

The 16-year-old season ticket holder has set up a Gillingham Promotion Party event on the social networking site Facebook and almost 150 people have already signed up.

Bradley, of Chelmsford Road, Strood, said he was inspired to set up the page after seeing a Millwall Relegation Party site - which was created by a West Ham fan.

Bradley said: "I'm not sure what we would do if Gills got promoted.

"It would be great to have something like we had when we went up last time - everyone gathered at Rochester Castle Gardens and there was an open-top bus tour. It was a fantastic day."

Bradley set up the event at the start of the season, when Gills were the bookies' joint favourites to be champions at odds of 9-1.

Three games into the season, Gills have drawn twice, lost at home to Lincoln and dropped to as far as 16-1 to win the league, but Bradley remains optimistic.

He said: "It has not been a great start but it is only the beginning of the season and we have a lot of players injured at the moment.

"I think we can still turn it around. You have got to stay positive."

Bradley received his GCSE results this week and some of the Gills players sent messages to congratulate him on his grades.

Like most Gills fans, Bradley has his hopes for promotion pinned on boss Andy Hessenthaler.

He added: "I wasn't too sure about Hess coming back at first but I've been down to the training ground and seen how hard he is working the players. Hess is a Gills legend."

And, after being approached by KentOnline, here's what the Gills boss had to say about Bradley.

"Fair play to the lad. He's positive, he knows we are capable once we all settle down."

"Fair play to Bradley he's got the confidence in us and we're confident and why not.

"Why not set up a promotion party. We've got to get into the top 3 its as simple as that.

"To the other people bear with us, give us a bit more time, we'll get it right, we'll have a good season.

"I'll have to meet Bradley and maybe get some of those positive pills off him and give them to a few other people."
