Adebayo Akinfenwa sends a diving header towards goal in the draw at Hereford on Saturday

We asked our panel of Gillingham fans for their reaction to Saturday’s goalless draw at Hereford. The point seems to have been met with disappointment but there remains plenty to be encouraged by.

BEN CURTIS (Brompton)

"I walked away feeling a lot like I did the previous week – encouraged, but disappointed with only a point.

"The players were superb, however, and only a series of last-second blocks, the woodwork and a couple of decent saves stopped us from winning.

"It really was a luckless day where nothing would go in. Kevin Maher, in particular, was excellent, Spiller and Palmer also had good games.

"Two draws, a clean sheet and a strong attacking threat in both games cannot be viewed negatively – and with players, and luck, bound to return in the coming months we will only get stronger."

SAM LIVINGSTONE (Pangbourne)

"Another draw and again another away match without three points. Although Hessy said we were phenomenal, I was disappointed with the lack of chances we created and our seeming lack of urgency.

"Having said that, we have still only played two games and we remain undefeated. I am confident when we start getting the likes of Aborah, Oli, McDonald and Fuller back from injury we will begin to start racking-up the points and Akinfenwa will start knocking in the goals.

"I’m looking forward to three points against Lincoln next week. Up the Gills."

JASON COLMAN (Gillingham)

"After the poor trips to away grounds last season it was good to see the boys having that belief back in the side.

"Hessy has assembled his squad really well and even with so many of the first team out injured, the ones coming in to cover look fantastic, especially at Hereford.

"We 100 per cent battered them from the start and it was unfortunate to find the Bulls keeper and the post in fine form.

"If we continue to play like this away and at home then I can’t see why we can’t win the league.

"It was always going to be tough with the first away game after last season but I thought the boys were fantastic and the 800-mile round trip was well worth it, except for not getting any goals.

"The defence looked solid, the midfield passed it around well and Bayo was again a monster up front.

"My man of the match was close between three - Spiller, Palmer, and Bentley. Up the Gills."

"It was a strange game, normally we play some nice passing football but for whatever reason that didn’t happen on Saturday, perhaps it was Gillingham not allowing us to play that way, but the game was pretty disjointed and the ball spent a lot of time in the air. Overall it was pretty poor.

"Considering Gillingham are one of the favourites for the title I didn’t see too much to worry most of the teams in League 2.

"They looked dangerous from time to time and are a good, solid side, but it all seemed to fall apart in the final third. Akinfenwa made a nuisance of himself as always and they have a couple of decent players.

"I think they probably did enough to have deserved to nick the win, they hit the woodwork, but all-in-all I think a draw was probably a fair result.

"I was impressed with the Gillingham supporters, to have 400-odd coming down on a Saturday was a good show and made for a decent atmosphere."
