Gillingham FC have been forced to change their kick-off time for Saturday's match with Millwall to 12.30pm after Kent Police intervened.
The Gills wanted to start the game at the traditional time of 3pm but the police served a notice on them to refer the decision to an independent safety advisory group.
After further dicussions the club had to change to the earlier kick-off time at what is relatively short notice. Gillingham FC have apologised for the altered start time and have asked fans to spread the word to others thinking of attending the match.
Kent Police say they regret any inconvenience but claim the action was necessary.
Area commander, Chief Superintendent, Steve Corbishley, said: “This decision was not taken lightly and we are aware it will impact the football club and genuine supporters.
"However, the decision was made for safety reasons and in agreement and with advice from an independent safety group.”
