Gills lucky to be level

Gillingham 0 Crewe 0

NEITHER side has been able to find a breakthrough in the first half at Priestfield.

The visitors have had the best of the chances and should have taken the lead after 29 minutes.

Steve Jones managed to get the wrong side of Ian Cox and force a good save from Jason Brown, but the ball rebounded to Luke Varney who somehow hit the crossbar from 10 yards with the goal gaping.

Apart from a Darius Henderson header that went high over the bar, Gillingham have been restricted to two decent long-range efforts from Jonathan Douglas, both of which were saved by Crewe keeper Clayton Ince.

Gills have found it difficult to make much headway against a stubborn visiting defence, although Mamady Sidibe has been impressive up front.

Gillingham: Brown, Nosworthy, Cox, Hope, McEveley, Southall, Smith, Flynn, Douglas, Sidibe, Henderson. Subs: Banks, Hills, Crofts, Jarvis, Byfield.
