Mark McCammon's season took another upward turn on Saturday after he headed home Gillingham’s winner at Chesterfield.
A lack of fitness and form at the start of the season left him struggling to make an impact but he’s now revelling in the limelight – and his confidence is soaring after he won March’s Kent Messenger Group player of the month award.
“It’s getting better and better,” said McCammon, after scoring his fifth goal of the season.
“I’ve had a few ups and downs with injury problems and now I have to look forward and try my best for the team.
“I’m delighted as I was getting a little frustrated at not getting a goal. I went six or seven games without scoring and it’s frustrating as a striker.
“It’s also been great to get the player of the month vote from the supporters and I didn’t even score in that period, so I’m delighted with the way everything is going at the moment.
“I love playing football and it’s great to be back in the team and on the scoresheet as well; it’s a great feeling.”
