A teenage girl who fell from a bridge over the M20 remains
in a critical condition in hospital today.

The 17-year-old, from the Ashford area, suffered serious head
injuries when she plunged from the motorway near Ashford.

She was airlifted after falling from the Canterbury
Road Bridge, at Kennington, onto the coastbound
carriageway.

Kent Police said the girl is now in a critical,
but stable condition in a London hospital.

The M20 was closed in both directions between junctions 9 and
10 by Bybrook Barn at about 12.10pm yesterday.

The A28, which goes over the M20, was also closed.

Delays built up as the Kent Air Ambulance landed on the
deserted motorway just before 12.30pm before flying the woman to
hospital in London.

The Londonbound carriageway re-opened at about 1.30pm and
the coastbound carriageway 20 minutes later.

A Kent Police spokesman said it is investigating the
circumstances around the woman falling from the bridge.
