The 14-year-old from Temple Ewell was with friends in a play area near Pencester Gardens, Dover, when two boys who had been calling her names began throwing the bark.
One piece hit the girl in the face and, following an examination at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, the next day, she was found to have a bleed at the back of her eye.
Details about the incident, which happened at around 5.30pm on Monday, September 19, have only just been released by Kent Police.
Detectives have now issued an efit (pictured above) of a boy they would like to speak to.
The youngster is believed to have been aged under 12, was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a grey hooded top and had dark brown hair.
