Girls accused of assaulting German students

TWO girls, aged 12 and 14, are due to appear before a youth court today accused of assaulting two German students on Margate seafront.

The alleged victims, both aged about 15, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital for their injuries to be assessed.

One of them had a bruised and swollen cheek, the other a bruised and swollen face and cut to the hairline.

A 12-year-old girl, from Cliftonville, near Margate, has been accused of assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault and threatening a witness.

A 14-year-old girl, from Broadstairs, has been charged with assault, causing actual bodily harm, assaulting a police officer and common assault.

Both girls were remanded into the custody of the local authority until their appearance in court. The assault incident is alleged to have taken place on April 28 in First Avenue.
