POLICE are appealing for help from two young girls who could provide vital clues in the hunt for Medway’s phone box firework bombers.

Another kiosk - the ninth so far - was blown up in Palmerston Road, Chatham, on Saturday.

Police believe the girls could provide a description of a bomber who carried out the latest attack which took place at 6.35pm.

The two girls are white and between 12 and 14. One girl is 4ft 11ins of stocky build with short brown bobbed hair. She was wearing dark trousers and a long dark jacket.

The second girl is about 5ft 1ins tall and of very slim build with short brown hair in a ponytail. She was wearing dark trousers and a three-quarter length silver coat.

Det Sgt Kerry Rothwell said: “It is vital that these two girls come forward to help us identify the offender as he was overheard telling the two girls to run.

“I would ask all parents to think very carefully if they believe their daughters may be the two girls we would like to trace as a matter of urgency.”

Parents are being asked to consider where their daughter was at around 6.30pm on Saturday night and if she was with a friend.

They should also consider if the descriptions fit their daughter or a neighbour’s daughter.

Det Sgt Rothwell said: “The girls are not in any trouble and are not suspected of being involved with the actual explosion. However we would like to talk to them as quickly as possible.

“It is essential that we catch those responsible for blowing up these telephone kiosks and put a stop to these explosions before someone is maimed or killed.”

The spate of firework attacks over the last two weeks has damaged nine phone boxes, six cars and a shop.
