VOLUNTEERS from across Kent are needed to help with the first air ambulance week in the county.

Organisers hope to recruit about 500 helpers for the event, which runs from Monday to Sunday, September 5 to 11.

Jill Playle, business development manager for Kent Air Ambulance, said: "The idea of the week is to raise awareness of the charity and the life-saving work we do."

Volunteers will collect donations and sell badges for £1 in town centres.

"Helpers don’t have to be free for the whole week," said Mrs Playle. "We’ll be pleased to hear from those who can assist for odd days or a few hours."
